The Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front (TNUEF) led a militant struggle at Vembi Village in Villupuram District demanding house-sites for Dalits.

The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangham (affiliated to the All India Kisan Sabha), All India Agricultural Workers’ Union (AIAWU), All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) extended support and took active part in the struggle.

The struggle ended successfully and 105 landless families living in precarious conditions got house-sites.
